From the back cover: SERGIUS WILKINSON, popularly known in the Calypso world asa the Lord Saint, is the vocalist and leader of the group. He also plays the maracas to set the rhythm of the band. Not new to the Calypso scene, Saint has been singing for the past decade and has played nearly every spot in St. Thomas, including the Virgin Islands Hilton and the Carib- bean Hotel. He was crowned Calypso King of St. Kitts for the two con- secutive years of 1962-1963. Saint worked alone at first, accompaning himself with his guitar, until early in 1968, when he joined the Joel Myers Group to fill a ten-month engagement at the San Jeronimo Hilton, the Puerto Rico Sheraton, and the El Conquistador, ending the engagement in November at the Flamboyant Hotel in Curacao. Shortly thereafter, Saint formed his own group and went to Florida, where they played engagements in several cities, closing at the Colony Beach Club on Longboat Key in Sarasota. Following this, the Lord Saints Group were engaged by the Norwegian Caribbean Lines and they played first on the SUNWARD, later transferring to the SKYWARD.

LORIS CAINES is one of the outstanding self taught Tenor Pan players of the West Indies. His nonchalant manner would be deceiving if his expertise with the Pans were not so obvious. He has devoted many years of his young life to the steel drums and was the first runner-up in the Tenor Pan soloist competition at the C.H.S. Auditorium of St. Thomas in 1967. He arranges for the group, which is in itself remarkable, inasmuch as he does not read music.

HANSEL TYSON plays the Bass Pans and plays them well, despite the fact that he never really worked full time at them until 1968. He has made three previous recordings, including one called the Steel Band Hymnal, with the Rid-O-Pest Steel Band. Hansel, in the past, has always worked with the big bands; but he now prefers small bands, as he finds that it requires more concentration. He plays piano also, but says that there is no greater challange than playing the Steel Drum Bass in the key of B!

DENZIL BURROUGHS is the player of the double Guitar Pans although he plays any of the drums well, including the Tenor and Bass Pans. It is only for the past year and a half he has confined himself to the Guitar Pans. In 1966 he formed his own band, but the strain of leadership with its many responsi- bilities was too much. As he said, when the strain is in, the fun is out! So, for the present at least, he will remain a player and the assistant arranger.

Oliver Pacini's life has truly been a world of music. Coming from a musical family (there was once a Pacini Orchestra with four brothers and a sister), his experience has been wide and his dedication intense.

A few years ago saw the beginning of travels to far places and since then, islanders on specks of land in the Pacific as well as primitive tribesmen in the jungles and mountains of South East Asia have looked at and listened with astonished delight to this musical Californian. And applause has been generously bestowed by staid hotel audiences in Bombay, swinging sophisticates in the posh supper clubs of Japan and Taiwan, gala crowds in the Philippines, our Jet Set and pleasure seekers in the Northwest and Romantic Hawaii and thousands of appreciative G.I.'s all over the Far East.
