Maddox Brothers And Rose

Move It On Over
Maddox Brothers And Rose
Wrangler WR 1003

From the back cover: The name Rose Maddox is by now synonymous with what Country and Western music is all about. A natural entertainer, "the one Rose" as she has come to be known among her colleagues and fans, is one of today's leading C&W artists. Her authentically "down home", often raucous style, her independent fatiguable swing, her open wit and good humor, have made her a constant favorite at jamborees and concerts all over the country.

Born in Alabama, Rose left there for California with her family when, in her own words, she was "just a little bitty girl." That trip was made on a freight car, but times have since changed. "I've done a lot of traveling over some of those same roads, but now it's always First Class."

Oh Yeah - Billy Williams

The Side Of Heaven
"Oh Yeah"
It's Billy Williams Singing
Mercury Records MG 20317

From the back cover: It all started when young Billy, of Waco, Texas, the son of a minister, decided to follow his father's career. As a student at Wibeforce University, he joined with three other students to sing songs of gospel. They called themselves The Charioteers. Station WLW, Cincinnati, soon persuaded them out of their amateur status. A few years later, they were guests on Bing Crosby's radio show and stayed there for six years.

In 1949, his eye on the fast-growing television industry, Billy Williams decided to form a group of his own, to combine first-rate singing with polished visual presentation. The Billy Williams Quartet, soon a fixture on the Sid Caesar-Imogene Coca "Show Of Shows." became one of the hottest musical attractions in America.

From Billboard - October 14, 1957: Title of this package was obviously inspired by catch-line of Billy Williams' recent hit Coral single "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter," Album may recap some sales as result of artist's current popularity in singles field, but otherwise its content is somewhat disappointing since many of the tunes are unfamiliar. However, jocks should find some spin able sides among the standards – "I Don't Know Why," etc.
