Dance Party With Johnny Desmond

The Old Devil Moon
Dance Party WIth Johnny Desmond
Golden Tone C4045

Sold as a "dance party" album with Desmond mentioned as a side note on the back cover: And as an added attraction, this album features Singer-Dancer-Actor-Composer Johnny Desmond to add zest to the listening and dancing. All you need now are fun-minded people (or, at least, a partner), and a floor (any one will do) – and this album will do the rest.

This budget Golden Tone press is all about Desmond and his excellent lounge vibe vocals.

International Pop Orchestra

Habanera
International Pop Orchestra
110 Musicians
Wyncote/Cameo SW-9005
1964

Songs play through as listed on the cover.

From the back cover: Consisting of 110 hand-picked musicians, the International Pop Orchestra is almost unique in the world today – a full-fledged symphonic orchestra created solely for the purpose of playing popular music. It's string section alone numbers 58 members and is augmented by such unsymphonic instruments as guitars and mandolins. Also contributing to the almost-overwhelming sound of this unusual ensemble are bongos, timbales, a variety of unusual rhythm instruments and a grand theatre organ!

Apparently this album concept was designed to lure mathematicians and people who don't subscribe to the theory that "less is more". If you are counting, this budget "lush string" album sounds LP pretty good compared to many of the period.

Leroy Anderson In Latin America - Marco Rizo

Sleigh Ride

Leroy Anderson In Latin America
Marco Rizo, His Piano & Orchestra
Forum F 9039

From the back cover: Marco Rizo, his piano and orchestra have taken some of Leroy Anderson's best known melodies and without losing any of its flavor have added a beguiling Latin touch that enhances the original songs. He keeps Anderson's flowing, melodic warmth and then heats it with his Latin piano styling.

Marco Rizo has shown a high degree of originality in his own right in arranging the Anderson melodies included here. He takes "Blue Tango" and turns it into a slow cha cha which effectively turns back to a tango rhythm in the release and then back again to a slow cha cha in the main theme. Anderson's delightful "Jazz Pizzicato" is given new expression as a merengue and the snappy, humorous "The Typewriter" with its tapping of the machine becomes a mambo dance number. "Belle Of The Ball" sounds as natural as a slow rumba as it originally did as a waltz. Many of Leroy Anderson's compositions fit perfectly into place and can be done no other way. "The Syncopated Clock" is constructed to be just what Marco Rizo has made it here, a natural cha cha melody.
