Redd Harper And His Guitar

If Man Should Reach The Moon
Redd Harper And His Guitar
I Walk The Glory Road
Christian Faith Recordings RH-1253
Produced By Alma Records, Inc. - Reseda, California

From the back cover: Redd Harper was a famous entertainer before he decided one night to devote and dedicate his life to the work of God. This important change came about when he attended a meeting of the Hollywood Christian Group presided over by Roy Rodgers. From that moment, Redd Harper found that his God-given talent for singing and writing could be used to the glory of our Lord.

During the next three years, he traveled with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Group and was chosen to play the title role in the film "Mr. Texas." He later appeared in "Oil Town USA" and in other Christian films. Redd now has his own evangelistic meetings, singing and telling his thrilling testimony of what the Lord means to him.

Exotique - Whittemore & Lowe

White Peacock (transcribed by Whittemore & Lowe)
Exotique
Whittemore & Lowe
Duo Pianists
Produced by Richard C. Jones
Capitol Records SP 8550
1961

Featuring "exotic" cover art and an intriguing title, Capitol geared this interpretive classical set to "exotica" buyers. The package theme/set is explained on the back cover using historical references to the "Exoticism" movement. Fine mood setting classical transcriptions, but not the "exotica" sound as late 50s/early 60s market understood it.

Maurice Ravel / Prelude To The Night
Cyril Scott / Lotus Land
Claude Debussy / Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Faun
Cesar Cui / Orientale
Charles Tomlinson Griffin / White Peacock
Claude Debussy / Clouds
Sergei Rachmaninoff / Tears
Arnold Bax / The Poisoned Fountain

Let's Dance Latin - Warren Covington

El Watusi
Let's Dance Latin
Warren Covington And His Orchestra
Decca Records DL 4491
1964

One of the last albums Covington produced under his own name before he focused on supporting other musicians in the studio. This set would have sounded fresh if released in the late 50s before the market became crowed with many fine "Latin" sets. None-the-less, although late to the market, this is lively big band Latin set worth collecting.

Mood Italinao - Tommy Gumina

Mood Italiano
Tommy Gumina
Accordion With Rhythm Accompaniment
Decca Records DL 8630
1958

Available for purchase from digital download sources, but not with this great cover art. The album is better than the title implies. The jazzy arrangements heard on this set transcend typical period "Italian" theme accordion music fair.

From Billboard - March 3, 1958: A mood set of Italian themes, several of which are from Italian flicks. Lush work setting complement Gumina's accordion wizardry.
