From the back cover: One of those chiefly responsible for rekindling interest in the magnificent trumpet music of the 18th Century is Roger Voisin, first trumpet of the Boston Symphony and one of the country's leading virtuosos. In addition to his work as a performer, he is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music and teaches at the Berkshire Music Center. Mr. Voisin has made several albums of brass music, available from Kapp Records – The Modern Age Of Brass (Kapp KCL-9020); The Golden Age Of Brass (Kapp KCL-9028); and the first two albums in this series of Music For Trumpet And Orchestra (Kapp KCL-9017 and KCL-9033).
The second soloist in this album, John Rhea, is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, having studied under Roger Voisin. He has been the soloist and co-soloist with Mr. Voisin in recitals in Boston, and has also played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Emanuel Vardi is well known to audiences both as one of the country's leading violists and as an outstanding conductor, whose repertoire ranges from early Baroque music to contemporary works. As a soloist and as a conductor, he has given innumerable concerts and recitals in concert halls, theaters, radio and television appearances, and on records.
