I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know
Skeeter Davis
A&R Coordinator: Ethel Gabriel
RCA Camden CAS-818(e)
1964
From the back cover: You can hear them in her singing, tears of happiness and tears of sorrow – the touchstones of greatness that have made Skeeter Davis an international star. Sweet and unassuming, this farm girl from Dry Ridge, Kentucky, has become one of the most sought after of celebrities, in constant demand for personal appearances both in the United States and abroad. Once she had been a struggling young singer sustained by a dream and determination and a great love of life. These can and did work wonders. But life also brought a great sorrow to Skeeter, and with it came another precious quality – a deep and abiding humanity, a compassion for the trails and heartaches that all people must endure.
Once Skeeter had a sister, Betty Jack, and the two girls began to perform as a vocal duo. They were devoted to each other and to music. Their future looked bright. Together they created the hit record which is the title song of this album, I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know. (It is reproduced here in its original hit version by Skeeter and Betty Jack.) Then tragedy ended the brief career of the sisters when an automobile accident took Betty Jack's life. For Skeeter there was a long period of inactivity and recuperation. Slowly time healed the wounds of the tragedy. Finally Skeeter began to sing again, and out of her sorrow artistic enrichment flowered.
Eventually, RCA Victor's manager of Popular Artists and Repertoire, Steve Sholes, persuaded Skeeter to try a solo recording session, and with the success of that undertaking her new career as a solo performer began.
From Billboard - July 11, 1964: Skeeter's distinctive country vocal style has won her a prominent place in the country music world. Many of her singles have broken big in the pop singles field. The arrangements herein are most pleasant and entertaining. A few of the selections are: "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know" (the original Davis sisters hit recording), "I'm Going Steady With A Heartache," and "Wishful Thinking."
I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know
He Left His Heart With Me
I'm Going Steady With A Heartache
I Ain't A-Talkin'
I Need You All The Time
The Hand You're Holding Now
Someone I'd Like To Forget
Wishful Thinking
Someday, Someday
Wave Bye Bye
