From the back cover: This album is typical of the sounds of the Charlie Pickens Trio: a collection of familiar standards mixed with new tunes, interpreted with a fresh and distinct personal touch that is decidedly the Trio's own.

In response to many request, here are twelve tunes selected from the tapes of two recording sessions. These show the versatility of the group and speak well for Charlie's creative ability as a pianist and arranger.

Charlie Pickens, while being new to the recording industry, is ny no means a novice in the music business. A seasoned musician, he has, for more than a decade, written and arranged for his own dance band. Some will remember this exciting group, which trilled Dixieland bugs in major cities throughout Ohio.

During the past few years, Charlie has gradually reduced the pace of his band to the present Trio. The Trio give each man freedom of musical expression, permitting both individual improvisation and group interaction. The resulting rapport is sensed and shared by the listener.

Here, then, is your first sampling of the Charlie Pickens Trio on record as they creat etheir own brand of music. This album will give you many hours of enjoyment.

  1. The title of the posted track should be corrected to "Spring Is Here"

  2. An obscure pianist and an obscure album. He doesn't even appear in the comprehensive Walter Bruyninckx Jazz Discography, and the info according to the Discog website was that only this album of his was released, no indication of recording date. I couldn't find any sign of him at YouTube...
