From the back cover: Jungle Blues is by Jelly Roll Morton. We listened carefully to Jelly's piano solo version of this tune as recorded by Alan Lomax in 1938 at the Library of Congress. The number is haunting, moreso than most of Morton's music. It's a tune we rehearsed specifically for this album, and the rendition we did at the Recital Hall came out beautifully on the first take. Unfortunately, the tape recorded acted up (as it did on Nobody's Fault) and we had to redo this one in the studio. Even after a five week delay, we still were able to get it in the can the first time.
