From the back cover: Chuck Israels, the Ensemble's artistic director and bassist, has achieved world wide recognition for his work with Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, J.J. Johnson, Benny Goodman, John Coltrane, George Russell, Dexter Gordon, Gary Burton and Herbie Hancock and has had his works performed throughout Europe by many of the staff radio orchestra. He is active as a jazz educator and in 1978 was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Music Composition.
