Bethlehem's Girlfriends - Chris Connor, Julie London, Carmen McRae

It's All Right With Me - Chris Connor
Bethlehem's Girl Friends
Julie London, Carmen McRae, Chris Connor
Bethlehem Records BCP-6006

From the back cover: Luckily for Bethlehem, its catalogue is rich enough to produce material by these three artists to make-up this wonderful sampling of their varied styles.

And lucky for us as this is one excellent compilation album. The track selection by Bethlehem is perfect. The featured tunes are hand-picked for their quiet, jazzy subtle and emotional depth. They play off one another extremely well. I don't normally collect popular pop compilations but if you enjoy anyone of these ladies, this collection will likely strike you as amazing.

The Young Beat Of Rome - Hugo Montenegro

Mala Femmena
The Young Beat Of Rome
Hugo Montenegro And His Orchestra
RCA Victor LPM-2958
1964

Here's another winning album by the amazingly talented Hugo Montenegro. He threw his space age bag of sounds into this baby so that you will not want to stray far rom your speakers while this disc is spinning. Each track is a guaranteed surprise and thoroughly entertaining. This is one of the better space age "Italian" theme bachelor pad pressings that I've listened to.

From the back cover: This is a complex sound and there's nothing quite like it. The flavor is unmistakably Italian, naturally and proudly, Yet there's an ear cocked to the Beatles and Count Basie, there's a Neapolitan melody with a Nashville twang, there's a romantic love song that's suddenly shrieked from astride a waspish Vespa, there's a delight and defiance, a passion for living.

Fear not the marching band theme, there is plenty of good Ray Martin space age arranging marchin' through the tracks.

Straight Down The Middle - Sauter-Finegan Orchestra

Have You Met Miss Jones? (LPM-1497)
Straight Down The Middle
Sauter-Finegan Orchestra
RCA LPM-1497/LSP-1497
1957

From the back cover: In reviewing the previously released Sauter-Finegan albums, Under Analysis, the following statement was made: "It appears that the Sauter-Finegan band is moving into a field which is not dance or jazz but almost that of musical commentators of our time."

Also from the back cover: At present time Eddie Sauter is busy filling his post as musical director of Sudewestfunk, the radio center in Baden-Baden, Germany, yet already Bill Finegan has received several Sauter arrangements for the next Sauter-Finegan album, an affair that promises to be as imaginative, as colorful and as thoroughly good as Straight Down The Middle!

Band members on this set include: Harvey Estrin, Al Block, Ray Shiner, Gene Allen, Wally Kane - Saxophones, Joe Ferrante, Al Maiorca, Nick Travis - Trumpets, Sonny Russo, Rex Peer, Tommy Mitchell - Trombones, Jay McAllister - Tuba, Nanette Norton, Janet Putnam - Harp, Dave Hildinger, Moe Wechsler - Bass - Piano, Milt Hinton - Bass, Barry Galbraith, Mundell Lowe - Drums and Joe Venuto - Percussion.
