1959

From the back cover: Andre Previn was born in Berlin, Germany, April 6, 1929. He began his musical studies in Europe. He came to the United States in 1939 and continued his studies in Los Angeles with several of the great men in the music field.

He has been composing and conducting film scores at MGM since 1949, except for two years 1950-51 which he spent in the army.

He has been nominated several times for Academy Awards, and is gifted classical, popular and jazz pianist.

He began being interested in jazz after hearing Art Tatum and realizing what could be down in jazz form. He has appeared on the concert stage and in night clubs with equal success.

His conviction "Jazz Is A Very Important And Genuine American Art Form" was strengthen in the 1950s when he heard Bud Powell and the late Charlie Parker.

Through his achievements in the last ten years he now ranks tops as a composer-conductor in the American musical field

  1. That cover is very Exotica. Space Age Exotica but Previn was never known for that sort of thing I don't think. He was one of Mia Farrows husbands, I believe.
