From the back cover: In calling these musical sketches FREE FORMS, I do not refer to their musical construction individually as much as to their nature and style as a whole. They are random thoughts, little melodies I found myself humming and have set down for a small chamber orchestra, i.e. – string quartet, woodwind quintet, alto sax, French horn and rhythm section. Some of them are jazz tunes, some are not. All are representative of music in toto from Bach and Verdi to Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker. Each musician is treated as individually as possible, which made playing the pieces interesting for us, and, I hope pleasant listening for you. – Ralph Burns

Oh yes, the music has a Latin feel and the cover is FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteYou do get one of the best "cool" saxophonists ever in Lee Konitz on four tracks. Great record.
