By The Time I Get To Phoenix
The Lackawanna And Erie Express Band
Arranged and Conducted by Bob Armstrong
RCA Camden CAS-2227

The art department could have used a little help creating a more exciting cover. I almost left this one in the discount bin...
This is not a train sound effects record, a country album or even a swing album. The vibe is blend of big band, easy listening, jazz/lounge and light pop (very "60s").
It's hard to choose any one track for sample... but I enjoyed the lounge cover of By The Time I Get To Phoenix.

Great record. I have this.
ReplyDeleteTrain sounds records are highly collectible today. Two groups wan them, people into building speakers for demo material, and train buffs or as they are now,'foamers'.
ReplyDeleteFound my copy years ago in a thrift shop. I absolutely adore "North Tonawanda Chowder and Marching Society," and I'm a little surprised that no other bands seem to have recorded it.
ReplyDeleteI'm still having no luck finding any further info on the band, but I did find this on YouTube. Same label, same era, same arranger...same sound?
