Hot And Cool
Dick Cary
Most Talked About Modern Arranger/Musican
STERE-O-CRAFT RTN-106
1961

From the back cover: Cool music played by today's jazz musicians, each with an established reputation for playing "hot!"

This intriguing idea could only be conceived and developed into reality by such a person as Dick Cary.

The group of musicians gathered together by Dick for this "Stereo" session certainly has the ability to handle these fascinating modern arrangements. Their spirited solos contribute greatly to making this an outstanding jazz recording.

You will hear Al Cohn, Bob Wilbur and Ernie Caceres playing the reeds. They have many opportunities to express themselves.

The brass section, if we may call it that, is comprised of only one man, "Dick Cary." He shows his versatilely on Alto Horn, Alto Trumpet and Trumpet with great solos on each instrument! Not only did he handle the "brass section" but joined the rhythm section on Piano, alongside of Buzzy Drootin (Drums), Al Hall (Bass) and Al Casamenti (Guitar). You will marvel at the big band sound achieved by Dick's modern scoring.

Dick Cary has been in and around New York for the past 10 years and has established a strong reputation in this important music center. He has played and arranged for such greats as Louis Armstrong, Bobby Hackett and Tommy Dorsey.

Included in this recording are two of Dick's originals "Touche" and "Cross Eyed Penguin." These tunes are in the books of many leading bands and you can hear why after a listen.

Touche
Crosseyed Penguin
