On The Shores Of Waikiki - Jerry Byrd

Little Lani Jo
On the Shores Of Waikiki
The Guitar Of Jerry Byrd
And His Orchestra
Mercury Wing MGW 12183

From the back cover: To share his delight in making this album, Jerry brought in his long-time friend, Danny Kuaana and Danny's instrumental and vocal group, "The Islanders." Danny is today one of the few remaining exponents of the traditional ultra-high register singing style cultivated by islanders through the reigns of the Kamehamehas, Kalakauas and other historic Hawaiian ruling dynasties. When Sonja Henie developed her famed hula dance feature which became a high point of her ice show, she engaged Danny Kuaana and his group to travel with her wherever she went to insure the success of this single number.

From Billboard - May 27, 1957 (MG 20230): Packaging, featuring the usual assortment of Island medolies, will find strong competition from the seasonal load of similar albums. Sound here is rather dull and lacks the color and vigor of other sets available. Choicer items will distract from sales of this album. Sides were cut during shellac era.
