From the back cover: Nino Tempo's Rock And Roll Beach Party features the new rage of the bobby sox crowd. Nino's star has been rising steadily since he was featured in the 20th Century-Fox musical, "The Girl Can't Help It," Columbia's "Eddy Duchin Story" and with leading roles in two picture now before the cameras.
Nino was destined to become a musical success. How could he miss? At the age of five, he walked away with the grand prize on Major Bowes' Amateur Hour. His scat-singing completely captivated the massive radio audience and led to guest appearances with Benny Goodman at Madison Square Garden and with Glenn Miller's great band.
Nino's study of the clarinet, and the later transition to the tenor sax, began when he was ten years old... a show business anomaly... a washed-up singer at the age of ten. Though his singing career was called off due to new sounds, Nino never lost the spontaneous rhythmic feel inherent in all successful singers.
His proficiency as an instrumentalist led to a featured spot with Maynard Ferguson and, later, with the Lighthouse All Stars. Despite these successes, Nino's ambition is to make good as a singer and actor. His many screen credits and the constant demand for his services make such a goal certainly within the realm of reason.

ReplyDeleteThe Internet never forgets! I was looking for examples of saxophones in rock and roll beyond all the usual suspects and this post came up - perfect! I couldn't find any other clips of the tracks from this album so I used the one above. Thanks for the post.
