Let's Fall In Love - Hugo & Luigi Chorus

Anniversary Song

Let's Fall In Love
The Cascading Voices Of The
Hugo & Luigi Chorus
Engineer: Mickey Crofford
Recorded in Webster Hall, New York City
RCA Victor LSP-2717
1963

From the back cover: The Hugo & Luigi Chorus and its Cascading Voices, having received an overwhelming vote of confidence on their record debut (RCA Victor LPM/LSP-2641), now pay us a second visit. The hand-picked mixed chorus, highlighted by the wordless vocalizing of the six sopranos poised above it; the easy rhythm-section accompaniment punctuated by a particular personalities of Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore.

RCA Victor's celebrated pop producers, Hugo & Luigi are responsible for the quality of many of the popular albums appearing each month, not to mention the singles. Their chorus allows them personal expression, "an outlet," as Hugo says, "to do songs the public likes but that not too many people records today." Painstaking men, they cut about three pieces a session, Hugo conducting and Luigi in the control room. – Douglas Watt

From the back cover: The men playing behind Pee Wee and his eloquent trombone are Lee Cummins, clarinet; Andy Bartha, cornet; Jack Condon, piano; Gene Dragoo, bass; Bucky Pizzarelli, guitar and Cody Sandifer, drums. Together with their leader they make a kind of music that can't help but transport listeners to some imaginary, crowded bistro in old New Orleans, where the air is smoky, the mood is heady, and the blues are right in style.

The Songs That Made Him Famous - Clyde Moody

Dark Midnight

Songs That Made Him Famous
Clyde Moody
Starday Records SLP 262
1963

From the back cover: Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight! Although we can't turn back the clock, we can bring back a lot of pleasant Country Music memories with this collection of new recordings by the one and only Clyde Moody. Twelve years as a Grand Ole Opry star and 20 years as a Country Music entertainer throughout the United States and Canada have achieved for Clyde Moody a wide and devoted following. Clyde went into semi-retirement in 1957, due to some ill health, but now he is back on the country music scene and he is singing better than ever. Like rare old wine, Clyde seems to improve with the years, and Starday was delighted to hav Clyde come to Nashville in September of 1963 to make this album.

The "Shenandoah Waltz", "Where The Old Red River Flows", "Nobody's Business," "Next Sunday, Darling, Is My Birthday" and "What It Means To Be Lonesome" are songs that Clyde Moody made famous on records and in this album they are recreated in all their glory with modern high fidelity sound. In addition, Clyde sang several of his newer compositions, many of them in the waltz style that made him recognized as the "Country Waltz King".

In addition to his career on the Grand Ole Opry, Clyde also enjoyed great success working with Connie B. Gay as the featured star on the big Constitution Hall TV Show in Washington, D.C., as well as other Connie B. Gay Productions. Most Country Music fans are aware that Connie B. Gay is perhaps the most famous promoter of Country Music shows and was the founding president of the Country Music Association.

In the 50s, Clyde Moody starred on the Virginia Barn Dance in Danville, Virginia, a Mutual network radio show. At the present time Clyde is actively making personal appearances at parks and auditoriums.

Clyde is married and has two daughters, Susan Lynne and Debra Jo. He is a devoted family man with deep religious convictions. He has been married for over 24 years and now makes his home in Raleigh, North Carolina.

These recordings were made at the Starday Sound Studio in Nashville, Tennessee under the direction of Tommy Hill with "Hoss" Linnerman assisting as engineer. Accompanying musicians were Jerry Shook - lead guitar, Jerry Smith - piano, Pete Drake - steel guitar, Chubby Wise - fiddle, Billy Linneman - Bass and Willie Ackerman - drums.

Recordings were made in stereo and re-mixed for maximum monaural sound quality. Starday welcomes Clydy Moody, the genial gentleman of Country song back to the Country Music fold with this album of "Songs That Made Him Famous". – Don Pierce, Starday Records

Talk Back Trembling Lips - Johnny Tillotson

Johnny Tillotson
Producer: Paul Tannen
Produced by Tanridge Productions, Inc.
Recorded at Bradley Studio, Nashville, Tenn. & A&R Studios, N.Y.C.
Director of Engineering: Val Valentine
MGM Records SE-4188

From the back cover: For his debut album on MGM Records, Johnny Tillotson selected a fine program of popular songs that are among the biggest hits of the last few years. And in every case he has brought to these songs a personal warmth and grace of style that make them seem brand new. Talk Back Trembling Lips is, of course, Johnny's own big hit. It was his first MGM single release, and it soared to great heights of popularity shortly after it was issued, and remained popular through the end of 1963 and seemed headed into more popularity in 1964. Johnny's wide range of vocal talent brings a refreshing, lyrical treatment to the familiar new hit Blowin' In The Wind, while the catchy Danke Schöen is a swinger, all the way. There are many more, including the perennially popular Blue Velvet and I Can't Stop Loving You, for example, that take on a new glow with Johnny Tillotson. It's that kind of album. He's that kind of singer.

Pirouette Records FM 10

Featured musicians:

Julius Schacter - 1st Violin
Ossie Johnson - Drums
Joe Merman - Piano
Hymie Schertzer - 1st Saxophone
Jim Tyler - 1st Trumpet

From the back cover: Al Goodman, famous conductor and musician, has devoted all his life to music. His love for music and his inherent musical ability were manifest when, at an early age, he sang soprano in his father's choir. He started his professional life as a pit musician in a local "movie house". Choosing music as his life-time work, he was awarded a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.

In 1915, Al Goodman was selected by Earl Carroll as arranger and conductor for his musical extravaganzas. Goodman considers this his "official" entry into show business... the start of an illustrious musical career which brought him into personal association with the all-time "Greats" of show business. Many shows and musical productions were successful in great measure because of Al Goodman's outstanding ability.

Al Goodman produced musical comedies with Earl Carroll. Hits like So Long Letty and Canary Cottage. Later he became Al Jolson's personal conductor and arranger. His next association was as musical director and composer for all Shubert musical productions.

Radio and TV claim him as consultant and director for such favorite programs as Hit Parade and Colgate Hour. He numbers as his friends and business associates such broadway luminaries as Earl Carroll, Al Jolson, George White, Sigmund Romberg, Jack Beeny, Fannie Brice, George Jessel, Flo Ziegfeld, James Melton, Max Gordon, Bob Hope and many, many others.

The name of Al Goodman, arranger, conductor, musician is one of the brightest lights on Broadway.
