Although we can't turn back the clock, we can bring back a lot of pleasant Country Music memories with this collection of new recordings by the one and only Clyde Moody. Twelve years as a Grand Ole Opry star and 20 years as a Country Music entertainer throughout the United States and Canada have achieved for Clyde Moody a wide and devoted following. Clyde went into semi-retirement in 1957, due to some ill health, but now he is back on the country music scene and he is singing better than ever. Like rare old wine, Clyde seems to improve with the years, and Starday was delighted to hav Clyde come to Nashville in September of 1963 to make this album.
The "Shenandoah Waltz", "Where The Old Red River Flows", "Nobody's Business," "Next Sunday, Darling, Is My Birthday" and "What It Means To Be Lonesome" are songs that Clyde Moody made famous on records and in this album they are recreated in all their glory with modern high fidelity sound. In addition, Clyde sang several of his newer compositions, many of them in the waltz style that made him recognized as the "Country Waltz King".
In addition to his career on the Grand Ole Opry, Clyde also enjoyed great success working with Connie B. Gay as the featured star on the big Constitution Hall TV Show in Washington, D.C., as well as other Connie B. Gay Productions. Most Country Music fans are aware that Connie B. Gay is perhaps the most famous promoter of Country Music shows and was the founding president of the Country Music Association.
In the 50s, Clyde Moody starred on the Virginia Barn Dance in Danville, Virginia, a Mutual network radio show. At the present time Clyde is actively making personal appearances at parks and auditoriums.
Clyde is married and has two daughters, Susan Lynne and Debra Jo. He is a devoted family man with deep religious convictions. He has been married for over 24 years and now makes his home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
These recordings were made at the Starday Sound Studio in Nashville, Tennessee under the direction of Tommy Hill with "Hoss" Linnerman assisting as engineer. Accompanying musicians were Jerry Shook - lead guitar, Jerry Smith - piano, Pete Drake - steel guitar, Chubby Wise - fiddle, Billy Linneman - Bass and Willie Ackerman - drums.
Recordings were made in stereo and re-mixed for maximum monaural sound quality. Starday welcomes Clydy Moody, the genial gentleman of Country song back to the Country Music fold with this album of "Songs That Made Him Famous". – Don Pierce, Starday Records
